Our troop is run by the scouts themselves, with the guidance of the Scoutmaster and his assistants. The senior patrol leader (SPL), a scout of at least Life rank, guides the troop. We have not had an SPL in recent memory that was not an Eagle Scout during or shortly after being the SPL. Helping the senior patrol leader are two Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (ASPL). They are both at least Star rank. Should all three be unable to attend an activity, the senior scout at the activity is the acting SPL. These positions are chosen by the voting of the entire troop bi-annualy.
Each patrol is lead by a Patrol Leader (PL) and an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL). Both of these positions are chosen by the members of the patrol bi-annualy.
Additional positions include the Librarian, Historian, Chaplains Aid, Troop Guide, Bugler, or Quartermaster. These positions run up to 6 months in length.
Experience has shown us that the chances for learning leadership in Scouts produces quality leaders for the community.
Adult Leadership is a necessary part of any scout troop. A scout who has an active parent is much more likely to become an Eagle Scout. Troop 374 has countless leaders with over a decade tenure with the troop.
