Packing List for Weekend Campout:

The Troop provides the following:

  1. Tents (for scouts - adults should bring a tent or plan to bunk in a tent with another adult)
  2. Food / Drinks.
  3. Cooking gear.

Scouts should bring:

  1. Boy Scout Handbook - Always bring your Boy Scout Handbook!
  2. RAIN GEAR - A cheap poncho is generally sufficient. Rain gear is often misplaced after a rain event. Please label your rain gear.
  3. Sleeping bag - Appropriately rated for the expected weather. A sleeping back with a fleece sleeping bag liner combination will satisfy the needs of your scout for all of the weather possibilities. The fleece liner can add 10 - 20 degrees to the comfort rating of a sleeping bag. In the warmer months the fleece liner can be used instead of the sleeping bag.
  4. Sleeping pad for comfort and warmth in cold weather camping.
  5. pillow.
  6. Sleep wear - consider the weather and your son's preference for comfortable sleeping. Label clothing with your scout's name.
  7. Mess Kit. Traditional mess kit or just pack plastic ware from home. Be sure to have a plate, bowl, drink cup, and utensils. Label mess kit with scout's name.
  8. Tooth brush and toothpaste.
  9. Flashlight. Send extra set of batteries.
  10. Clothing - label all clothing with scout's name.
    1. Include extra t-shirts.
    2. Include extra socks.
    3. Old shoots or boots for muddy or wet conditions. Spare shoes for the trip home.
    4. Scout uniform - For insurance purposes the scout should wear the Class A uniform when we travel. The scout should arrive at the fire station wearing the Class A uniform. Upon arrival at the camp it can be put away until departure from camp.
  11. Outer wear - layer appropriately for early risers. Label all clothing with scout's name.
  12. Water bottle - pre-fill the water bottle at home. The scout can refill it at camp but it's good to have water from home until the camp is setup.
  13. Medications - if the scout can self medicate without reminders it is OK to pack it in the boy's pack. If the scout needs to be prompted or guided to administer the medication, present meds with instructions to the Scoutmaster upon departure.
  14. Permission slip - available on the troop website. See the Documents and Forms section of the website ( http://374liberty.org ).
  15. Camp stool - scouts may not sit in a chair with a backrest until they reach the rank of warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Some boys may have seats made from 5 gallon buckets.
